In my diploma work I explore sustainable product design in my diploma work and investigate how ecology could best be realised in the work of a handicraft designer.
The production part of my diploma work consists of jewellery made of recycled material. The Siru Jewellery combines broken ceramics with junk silver. I have tried to take into consideration the ecological qualities of a piece of jewellery during every stage of its life cycle and to create a product as environmentally responsible as possible.
Through my work I want to suggest a new kind of attitude toward broken, useless items. What if waste wasn?t always considered ugly and filthy? Could it sometimes be so beautiful that it could be used as jewellery?
I have studied both ceramic and glass design and industrial design at the University. My specialisation is ecological product design, because I believe that designers should understand the environmental impacts of their products.
