This chaise was first produced in 1968. The story is that it was inspired by Hollywood director Billy Wilder. Wilder told Charles Eames that during breaks in filming he would nap on a wooden plank no bigger than a foot wide. Drawing from the idea of a simple piece of furniture that could fit almost anywhere, Eames designed the chaise.
It has a die-cast aluminum frame that has been coated with nylon. Comfort being one of the chief concerns in the design it is upholstered in black leather and has two foam cushions that can be moved as necessary.
