Borage ceiling paper

Designed by William Morris in 1888-1889
Printed by Jeffrey & Co. for Morris & Co.

Though he designed several ceiling papers Morris rather disapproved of them, feeling that they created a box-like effect when used with wallpaper walls. His ceiling papers were generally printed in only one or two colours and the pattern is multi-directional.

Yellow Vuokko fabric

This bright yellow Vuokko fabric dates back from 1960s. I bought it from Fiskars antique market. Measure: 200 cm x 140 cm.

----

Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi, born 1930 in Helsinki, is primarily known as a textile and garment designer, but she has also designed rugs (ryijy) and glassware. Vuokko Nurmesniemi was the first full-time designer for the textile and clothing brand Marimekko. Between 1953-1960 she was Marimekko's chief designer for fabrics and clothing. In 1964 she founded the company Vuokko Oy, closed down in 1988. In 1990 she founded a new company, Vuokko Nurmesniemi Oy. In 1997 she received the Kaj Frank Design Prize.

In 1960 Jackie Onassis was seen on the cover of Sports Illustrated in one of the eight Marimekko short, summer style sleeveless flounced hem dresses that she bought in the Cambridge, Massachusetts Design Research store. This dress was designed by Vuokko Nurmesniemi.
