Image: The Metropolitan Museum of Art

This wallpaper design is from 1890. It shows some of the reoccuring images and themes from Morris' work. He believed that any decoration must be able to remind people of something beyond itself. Thus, he tended to focus on images of nature, including the Englsih countryside. The repeating pattern and the naturalism are typical of his late style.
