The Forest

The peacock is a detail from a much larger work by Morris & Co called The Forest, designed in 1887. It was commissioned by Aleco Ionides and designed by William Morris (1834 - 1896). The original includes the peacock, above, at the left, with a lion in the middle dominating the piece, and a crow to the right. Seen as one of his most successful works The Forest has a number of animals set against an ornate background of acanthus leaves, an element of the design attributed to Morris's colleague Henry Dearle (1860 - 1932). The piece above shows the peacock standing on a branch, surrounded by the rich background of the leaves. As with all Morris & Co tapestries it has an impressive level of detail, and the level of craftmanship and effort that went into their design and manufacture is evident on viewing. The original is now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

We asked Nada Go-Go, dog design, Inka Järvinen, Aleksi Perälä, Noa Bembibre and Pekka Toivanen to make some art on the Chroma type 301 knives. Here's one of the results.
