This sterling silver brooch is from 1943. It is made from sterling silver. Like amny of Bertoia&#039;s pieces it appears to have been carefully molded.

These silver pins were probably created around 1948. It is likely that these were intended more as gifts for friends and family than exhibit pieces. However, in March of 1948 they were shown in exhibit at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis for modern design. At this same exhibit other artists, such as Sam Kiamer, were also shown. Many of the artists featured are the same who are considered to be the initiators in what is now contemporary jewelry.
